Black Women In Horror History: Monique 'Gata' Dupree
In addition to her work in genre film, Monique is an alternative/fetish model, a front woman in a band, Negro Childe, entrepreneur with an online clothing store Liz Boutique, a very active professional wrestling enthusiast, has collaborated on a comic book Cat O' Nine Tails, and participates in charity and social outreach.
But her presence in the horror genre should not be undermined or overlooked; Bachelor Party in the Bungalow of the Damned (2008), The Lovecraft Chronicles: Dumas (2010), Bikini Bloodbath Christmas (2009), Satan Hates You (2010), Post Mortem, America 2021 (2013), Plan 9 (2014)
Monique is truly an amazingly versatile individual with multiple talents, styles, interests and should be honored as a working actress in genre film unlike what we're consistently fed.
I encourage everyone to send Monique some love during Women in Horror Month and beyond as well as find her on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and visit her site to learn more!
